Babypeace, a unique business committed to promoting peace through clothing design and community service has taken root in Los Angeles.  The young woman behind this operation is combining her creative designs in infant and toddler clothing with a mission to support global peace efforts on behalf of children.

Keri Haarhoff, 33, owner of Babypeace, found inspiration from her own two children to develop the concept that forms the foundation of her business.  “I’m a mother of two children, and I made a promise to them that I would protect them.  Babypeace is my own small effort to encourage peaceful solutions to the world’s problems.”

Babypeace donates a percentage of its ongoing sales to nonprofit organizations around the globe to create opportunities for children to live safe, healthy, and fulfilling lives.  Save the Children Organization will benefit from the sale of Babypeace products this year, said Haarhoff.

While Haarhoff has strong opinions about the military conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, she is not interested in making political statements through Babypeace.  “Everyone talks about the necessity of peace in the world, but the world requires action, that’s why we support children’s organizations that pursue peace.  As Eleanor Roosevelt said, ‘It isn’t enough to talk about peace, one must believe it.  And it isn’t enough to believe in it, one must work for it.’  That’s what I feel I’m doing.”

Haarhoff said her definition of peace is much more than just the absence of war.  It has to do with nurturing and safety in the home, within the family, and community cohesion.  We have a blog on our website where people can discuss current events, or raise awareness on issues, or talk about grass-roots fundraising, as well as to shop.  It’s our own little online community.”

Babypeace seems to be following through on their commitment to helping social programs that benefit children.  Just this year, they participated in the AIDS Walk as a team raising a significant amount of money for the cause.  They recently conducted a clothing and toy drive for a local battered women and children’s shelter in Lancaster, California.  “Babypeace is growing everyday and what we can do as a community and how we can help is becoming more powerful.”

Although Babypeace is starting “small” with the design and sale of infant and toddler clothes, the business plan includes designs for maternity and women as well as complementary accessories.

The Babypeace slogan sums it up in a catchy but poignant way: Peace by Piece, for Our Children’s Sake.
